The worst cliche about Bordeaux wine

What do Kylie Jenner and Bordeaux wine have in common? Except for being nice medium-to-full-body.

First, you probably heard about both of them, even if you live under the rock with no internet.

Second, you might have an opinion formed on things you’ve heard, even against your will.

I asked yesterday “what is the worst cliche you have heard about Bordeaux wine?”. These are the funniest and very common:

1. “It’s all reds” — because the Bordelais were so bad at making good limpid white wine a few decades ago, they sacrificed those varieties for reds, which were more request in the world. Today 1/3 of the region’s production are white.

Want to try a white wine from Bordeaux? Check districts Graves, Pessac-Léognan and Entre-Deux-Mers. They are the biggest producers.

2. “I don’t drink Merlot but I love Bordeaux” — Merlot is the main variety in all Bordeaux blends (along with Cabernet Sauvignon, then goes Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc).

3. “Bordeaux quality worth the big money” — not always. Some producers can make you spend hundreds on ordinary grape juice. Your brain will be in euphoria because you will drink a brand.

How not to fall into that trap? Ask an expert for help or become a specialist yourself.

4. “They are the best wines in the world” — they definitely have the best marketing department in the world!

I’ve heard even French don’t always know which Bordeaux to choose.
So if they see AOC on the label, it should be good. If written “Grand Cru” — even better.
Little lifehack to simplify life

Are you a Bordeaux fan?

Big red cheers!
